Confidence in the Lord

Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

There are days when the hand of the potter seems hard as he shapes and molds the clay, those difficult days when the mountain seems to be much too steep and the road much too long.  In such days we need strength and faith, and we need courage and hope.  This verse speaks of confidence, and that is what we need in those times when the burden seems heavy and the road seem too long and too hard.  It is confidence that we need, but it is not confidence in our own abilities, our own faith and strength, it is the faith and confidence of knowing this one thing…the Lord will finish the good work that he has begun in our life.

The Lord will not give up, he will not forsake us, he will shape and mold us, he will guide and direct us, if we stumble he will catch us and if we fall he will lift us up once more.  Confidence in this one thing brings hope, and it brings the strength to rise up and keep walking ever forward.  Confidence in the Lord, confidence that he will finish what he began in our life is the comfort of hope that we need when the road is hard.  It is good to have confidence in this one thing.
