End Time Update

At the time of this writing, late June, there are 1400 separate wildfires burning mostly in Northern California.  In mid-June 8000 lightning strikes were recorded in one weekend and it is lightning credited with these fires.  This needs no commentary.  However, I will note a scripture.  II Samuel 22:14-15, The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice. And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.”

On June 23, 2008, Movement for Democratic Change in Zimbabwe (MDC) opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai withdrew from a scheduled presidential runoff election against long time President Robert Mugabe.  Tsvangirai then sought refuge in the Dutch embassy in Zimbabwe.  Mugabe has been head of the Zimbabwe government in some form or fashion since 1980.  Wikipedia reports the following in reference to Mugabe’s rule:  “The early years of Mugabe's rule saw killings targeting the Ndebele tribe in areas of Zimbabwe. Since 1998 Mugabe's policies have increasingly elicited domestic and international denunciation. His government pursued a costly intervention in the Second Congo War, expropriated thousands of white-owned farms, printed hundreds of trillions of Zimbabwean dollars triggering hyperinflation, and has been accused of harassing and intimidating political opponents, particularly members of the Movement for Democratic Change.  Zimbabwe's economy spiraled downward, with food and oil shortages, and with massive internal displacement and emigration. During this period Mugabe's policies have been denounced in the West and at home as racist against Zimbabwe's white minority.”  Mugabe has an adversarial relationship with America, Britain, and the EU.  South Africa and China are Zimbabwe’s greatest trading partners and its economy includes the production of gold and coal.  It is rumored that Tsvangirai dropped out (on the 23rd) of the June 27th run off election due to a state-sponsored assassination plot against him.  Mugabe uses the usual violent and political tactics to keep the population under control and himself in power.

The Lord gave us the date of June 23, 2008 to look to as there would be, “a death in a position of power.”  We have learned over the last many months that prayer is our greatest power as we can change the past, present, and future.  I, as well as others, prayed for God’s mercy for the June 23rd event to be something other than death.  Did the Lord honor our requests and stay his hand by compelling Tsvangirai’s decision to drop out of the election and seek protection at the Dutch embassy thus eliminating the need for assassination?  Only He knows.

Seymour Hersh’s "Preparing the Battlefield," in the July 7 New Yorker, reportedly uncovers some 400 million dollars that has been secured from congress by President Bush for the purpose of covert operations against Iran by what is known as a Presidential Finding.  Basically, a Presidential Finding is a secret report given to only the leadership of Congress that informs them that the President is in receipt of intelligence (often from the CIA) that he intends to act upon and that it requires their approval by appropriating the funds required.  The approval, oddly enough (if Hersh’s informants are correct), occurred in late 2007 when the democratically controlled congress lead by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D, CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D, NV) were busy demanding the troops be brought home from Iraq and how in opposition they were to Bush Administration foreign policy.  The question is why was the approval given?  Certainly covert operations could include sabotage, assassination, covert support for political opposition inside Iran, general destabilization of the nation politically and economically, and possibly even cross-boarder operations into Iran itself.  However, Ryan Crocker, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq has denied any cross-boarder activity.  It seems that even through much Democratic Party opposition to the war it is business as usual on Capital Hill.

Even a brief view of headline news over the last six months sees strong talk against the nation of Iran from the west, and even talk of strikes by Israel against the Iranian nuclear facility similar to their recent attack against Syria for the same purpose.  The Lord has told us that all we as Americans have tried to accomplish in Iraq will fail.  But at the same time He gave us a word of prophecy with regards to the region:  “Declare the word of the Lord, for from the east shall come a mighty army which will subdue Iran and Iraq and will establish a new nation.”   This event was to occur in November of 2008, but the Lord has delayed as he desires more to come to repentance before that time.  The question is if America fails in Iraq who then conquers Iraq and Iran?  I think most geo-political commentators would agree if America pulls out of Iraq there would probably be immediate chaos and a power struggle between the main two Muslim factions of Shia and Sunni.  Combine this with the ground work having been laid for military action against Iran and one can see how both nations could quickly be targets for invasion (again in Iraq’s case).  But how does the phrase, “from the east shall come…,” fit in?  There are mighty nations to the east of Iran including China.  And Afghanistan boarders directly east of Iran, but does it have a mighty army?  It does if one includes NATO, which now controls military operations in that nation against Al Qaeda.  We know that our adversary Satan is preparing the Antichrist at this very hour.  We also know that the Antichrist seizes power through craft and expert diplomacy.  He doesn’t have to build a nation and army, he just has to seize control of them (Daniel 11:21-23).

We know that the Antichrist will rise up and overthrow three nations (Daniel 7:8, 20, 24).  However, the overthrow of Iraq and Iran may not include the three nation prophecy.  So we must continue to look to three other nations that may possibly fulfill Daniel’s prophecy.  Zimbabwe was mentioned above.  It, like Sudan and other African nations, are suffering great turmoil at this time.  Africa is also rich in natural resources and would be desirous of the Antichrist as he will long for those resources that make economies grow strong.  The Balkan states are also an area of interest that we will look at more closely in the months ahead.  U.N. peacekeepers and NATO forces still have troops in that area and there is still unrest there.  Coal, oil, and natural gas are abundant in that area as well.

Lastly, I have a movie review for you this month.  Sylvester Stallone co-wrote and directed Rambo, the fourth installment of the Rambo series that began in 1982 with First Blood.   I wasn’t interested in it after seeing the trailer, but it actually got a good review.  And as I was at the movie rental place seeing nothing else of interest after looking at 1000 other titles I thought I’d give it a try.  Also, after realizing the film takes place in Burma (Myanmar) where the cyclone hit and did so much destruction last month or so, I was interested in seeing what Stallone’s take on the country was.  Because of the cyclone we learned a little of the military-controlled government known as the Junta.  They were clearly not interested in any outside aid to help their people in the aftermath of the destruction.  To date, there are an estimated 84,500 people dead from the cyclone destruction.

The plot of the film is simple.  Ex-Viet Nam Vet Rambo is living in neighboring Thailand and agrees to take a group of Christian missionaries into Burma to give medical aid and preach the gospel to refugees.  Of course after Rambo warns them not to go, they all, but him, get kidnapped by the local military unit.  The minister who sent them comes looking for them and hires Rambo to lead a mercenary force back in to get them.  There are some points of interest.  First, they did a pretty good job of showing the gospel being preached and making it clear that was part of the purpose for the initial trip.  Second, this was perhaps the most violent war-type film I’ve ever seen.  It’s certainly in the top five.  Lastly, the depictions of the violence and evil from the military regime towards not only the missionary group but its own people were brutal.   The oppressors were depicted as having no conscience whatsoever with the extreme level of brutality in which they treated the people.  As I reflected on the film, I thought of these words from our Father:  Declare these words unto the earth, for my tears fall this day. I am the Almighty God, and I have sorrow this day. You destroy your unborn children, and make a mockery of my law and my ways. Death and destruction shall come swiftly upon you. As my servant Jonah warned in ages past, so shall my people of the light warn and sound the trumpet’s call. Why do you not hear thou nation of Israel, my people cover the earth. My love is upon all men. The blood of my Son covers the earth, and by his name and blood all can be of the everlasting light. Death and despair shall be on every doorstep, none shall escape when my hand of power comes upon you. All shall suffer the loss of sons, daughters, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts and dear ones. No family shall go unpunished. Your cities shall be desolate, and your bones shall be exposed and hunger will fill every home. These are my promises and my word shall not fail. Hear my cries this day. Repent! Repent! I desire to send my mercy unto you. I do not take pleasure in death or destruction. Nations of the earth, and people of Abraham, you must repeal your laws which kill the innocent, and you must repent before me, or the wrath of heaven shall fall upon you.

I have a final word unto the people of America. Repent in sackcloth and ashes, for the sand of the hourglass slips by and darkness comes. I shall remove my hand of protection, and the dark one shall sift you like wheat. Repent, and fall upon thy knees, lift hands in praise, and call unto me, and I will be found of you.”

We know through the power of prayer, repentance, and the blood of the Lamb these things do not have to be.  Seek your Lord early and often.  Pray for your family and friends.
