Child Of My Child

By Kimberly Nix

Love blossoms, vows are exchanged

A new young couple begins their story of love

Exciting news, we dream and we wait

We wait for you

Child of my child

It is time, my child labors

We assist, she labors, she labors

A miraculous new life emerges

She could be mine, she looks like mine

Child of my child

Watching her sleep, watching her eat,

Watching her grow,

Smiles are given, laughter bubbles from within

She rolls over, she sits, she crawls

Child of my child

Little arm raised in praise

Head tilted with raised eyelashes

Playfully looking up

Our hearts soar, our laughter bubbles,

Child of my child

Sleepy eyes, full tummy, heavy head

Slumber claims the child

She brings joy to Papas and Grandmas,

Aunts and Uncles, Great Grandparents too,

Child of my child

Forgive me my child

When I slip and say to thy child

“Come to Mommy”

For I am transported back in time by the

Child of my child

Days and months roll quickly by

Our new love is ever with us

One day the child shall have a child

Then my child and I shall both know the love of a

Child of my child

Reagan of my Jennifer, I love you!
