Obedience is a theme that is throughout the pages of God’s word. Obedience has been required since our beginning. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eat thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:16-17 KJV) Obedience to the commands and laws of God has always been required of his creation. The angels are to obey him, and man and the creatures of the earth are to obey him. God is love and his commands are in place for our benefit. In this issue we have four messages from the Almighty God and our Savior, and the word obedience is used twenty-seven times and the phrase, “obedience of love” is used five times. In the message entitled, “Love is Eternal” the Almighty explains that his law is evidence of his love. “There are laws in all three realms that are perfect for I am perfect. My natural law provides man with an environment of beauty and a world perfect in harmony. My physical laws govern the living creatures upon earth. None of my law is harsh or evil, all is rooted in love.” Everything God things, says, or does is rooted in love for God is love and he is good and he can not think, say, or do anything that is not rooted in goodness and love. In the same message there is a wonderful comment. God is talking about his love and his law and states, “Men look to grace instead of the obedience of love. My grace and my mercy sent you my beloved Son to die for your sins but his death did not remove love, for his death is the greatest act of love ever known to man.” I love the way that is worded, he did not say his death did not remove the law he said the death of our Messiah did not remove love. All of the laws of God are rooted in love, and his perfect law is evidence of his love for all living.

God is love and in his love he promises rewards and benefits to all who obey him, but also punishment for those who do not. “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20 KJV)

God commands obedience, but he has given man the freedom to choose and he desires man to choose the obedience of love, for if we love them we are to obey them. Obedience is not to be rooted in fear or duty; it is to be rooted in love. We see this clearly in the words of our Savior as given in John 14:15, 21, “If ye love me, keep my commandments. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”  It is their will and desire that all men obey them, but obedience is a choice and disobedience is also a choice. No one forces us to obey and no one forces us to disobey. He allows us to choose. “Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this  day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.” (Deuteronomy 11:26-28 KJV)

The word of God is full of stories where people have been blessed when they obey and are punished when they disobey. The cycle of obedience followed by rebellion is repeated often in  the story of the nation of Israel.

Many of us have also allowed the same cycle to characterize our lives. I pray we are learning the importance of the obedience of love. The obedience of love has been mentioned often in the many messages that have been given to us by the Mighty Ones of heaven. These are just a few of the benefits and promises found in the obedience of love.

My perfection will be felt through obedience to all my words.”

“See the obedience of love, and let thy obedience of love lead you to my everlasting joy.”

“The obedience of love will be the first step toward removal of the stony heart. Repent and obey.”

“The obedience of love will let you surrender all doubt and fear, and the love of obedience will bring joy and a deeper love than you have yet known.”

“If you are to understand the joy of heaven, you must have the obedience of love.”

“I am with all who walk in the obedience of love.”

“The obedience of love will feed the spirit within, for the spirit yearns to be joined with the source from whence it came.”

“The obedience of love affects the light and power of prayer.”

“The obedience of love increases the light within and without.”

“The more you practice the obedience of love the more you will stand firm and not waver.”

“When love is deep within the spirit you will desire the obedience of love.”

“My blood cleanses and my light makes new, but once clean and renewed you must walk in the obedience of love.”

“They will fill the vessel that is broken, the vessel that obeys with the obedience of love, and the vessel that seeks their perfect will always.”

“Works not rooted in the obedience of love are empty works.”

“You must sacrifice to be pure, and the light shall fill those who walk in the obedience of love.”

“The obedience of love shall never pass for love shall never cease.”

“In the latter days there shall come a people. They shall be gathered as stars from the night sky. They shall begin to see mysteries explained and their knowledge and understanding shall grow as they learn the power of love and belief. Those who surrender their life and seek the love of obedience and the obedience of love shall come together to become a great light.  This light shall give power unto light. This united light shall stand against the evil of the last days. The chosen to be of this light shall be filled with love and compassion for love is the key to being of the light.”
